Chiquita
Meet Chiquita! She’s a little lumpy. She looks like a kolachi. She is a 5 year old chihuahua mix. Her vet has voted her “most likely to not be forgotten.” She won’t go outside if she doesn’t need to and knows when you are trying to be sneaky to catch her so don’t even try it. She loves a good chase and has a strong need for speed. Her green flag words are “bath,” “vet” and “ outside”- but she can be an easy catch with a little treat or cheese. She’s like that old neighbor you have down the street… not sure if shes going to chase you off her yard or invite you in for a cup of tea. She will sit 3 -5 feet away from you (like an obsession) …. Staring from afar. Is she plotting an attack? Picturing you on a plate with an apple in your mouth? One will never know….
But one thing is for sure… Chiquita deserves a loving family… and she wants one. She fits in like a comfortable shoe once she settles in and turns into a chunk of love. She may not win Miss Congeniality, but she makes up for it with an easy kind of love. While her instincts tell her to fight or flight she really does love to be petted and be near you, she just needs a little time to let her guard down. Her foster had great success leaving a leash on her for the first week so she can be guided when needed and to be petted without feeling like she needs to run. She is on a healthy living journey… having “a little work done” and walking daily to shed those unwanted pounds. She’s not a yappy chihuahua… her foster has actually never ever heard her bark. She’s doing well at being housebroken and has mastered the doggy door. At night her favorite place to sleep is on the dog bed, but during the day she’s probably in the same room with you. While she might not need to be in your lap or touching you all of the time, she does like being nearby where you can pat her head or scratch her belly as you walk by her. She gets along with the other dogs in the house but does not like big dogs. She love car rides and the children here and likes to be near them…. she was even recently spotted playing "Doggy daycare" with them. Her $175 adoption includes her vaccinations, microchip, spay, heartworm negative test and current heartworm preventative. Come see her at adoptions on Saturday 11-2 at 8901 highway 87 building 119. You can email adoptions.spspca@gmail.com with questions. REMEMBER - she will be the one giving everyone glares.
